Tire Pressure: Why Does It Matter?

ID-100212600

Jason Heard, GM at Frank Ancona Honda, offers some key insights about tire pressure.

From a safety standpoint tire pressure, if incorrect can compromise braking, cornering and stability.  It can also affect comfort, gas mileage and how long your tires will last.  If the pressure is too high less of the tire touches the road, which can cause a decrease in ride comfort and may cause some bounce that can lead to traction issues. If it is too low then consequently too much of the tire touches the road, this causes uneven wearing and overheating.

Tire pressure is affected by temperature changes so it should be checked during each season, even if it does not appear to be leaking.

Make sure to check all four tires, just because one is fine does not mean they all are. You should also use a gauge when checking, as relying on your eyes or kicking the tires are not accurate.

You can find the tire pressure recommendations in your owner’s manual or on the driver’s door pillar
