When it comes to transportation, safety is a big concern. We want to know that if the worst were to happen, we and our love ones will walk away. The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) has released their assessment of the 2016 Honda Civic and the car shines bright among competitors.
The IIHS has given the 2016 model top grades in all categories tested. While testing a model of the 2016 Civic Touring sedan, Edmunds found that the car stopped a few feet shorter than most when braking at 60 miles per hour. All models of the Civic come standard with the usual bells and whistles of stability control, antilock disc brakes, front side airbags, side curtain airbags and a rearview camera (a feature that is often an upgrade with other vehicles). As you change to the more luxurious trims, the Civic gains additional features such as a right-side blind spot camera known as LaneWatch and more advanced sensing technology.
Beyond the car’s superior structural engineering, the vehicle also has the trademarked Honda Sensing technology to keep operators safe on the road. Some of the features of Honda Sensing technology include:
- Lane Departure Warning
- Lane Keeping Assist System
- Road Departure Mitigation
- Adaptive Cruise Control
- Forward Collision Warning
- Collision Mitigation Braking System
This technology relies on sophisticated sensors that detect not only other vehicles and obstacles, but also the lanes you are driving in. If the car senses something that could lead to an accident, it will emit a warning tone. If the driver does not react quickly enough, the car can automatically begin to correct itself or even apply the brakes if necessary. While we will always promote safe driving, we want you to know that we are here to back you up for those instances that are beyond your control.
