The University of Oklahoma’s Keilani Ricketts wowed the sports world with her performances on the softball field throughout 2013 and is the recipient of The Honda Cup and was named the 2013 Collegiate Woman Athlete of the Year. The 6-foot-2 reigning Big 12 Pitcher of the Year carried her top ranked squad to their second consecutive NCAA title with a 1.23 ERA, 350 strikeouts and a nearly-unblemished 35-1 record.
The Collegiate Women Sports Awards presented by Honda has a 27-year history of championing athletes to reach their goals and rewarding them for achieving success. Since 1986, Honda has given more than $2.7 million in grants to the universities of award winners and nominees. These grants were designed specifically to benefit women athletic scholarships.
According to Honda.com, Ricketts said, “We really do feel appreciated. I’ve had a blast so far. It’s awesome to be able experience this with them. Winning the Honda Cup has been great to represent my school and my state.”
Previous recipients of the Honda Cup include Jackie Joyner-Kersee, Mia Hamm, Misty May-Treanor, Brittney Griner and Candace Parker, to name a few.
