Honda Civic Named 2016 North American Car of the Year

July 7, 2016

Every year, the vehicle industry competes for a unique award at the North American International Auto Show in Detroit. These awards are some of the most sought after, because as the Detroit Free Press notes, unlike awards given by a single publication, they are chosen by an independent jury of automotive journalists from the United States and Canada. This year, the Honda Civic won the title of North American Car of the Year.

According to the North American International Auto Show website, jurors examine innovation, design, safety, handling, driver satisfaction and value for the dollar when they tally up scores for each car entered into the competition. At the time of the award, Honda car sales overall rose by 13.3 percent while the Civic itself gained 29.4 percent.

If all of this doesn’t sell you on the Honda Civic, take a look at all the other accolades the 2016 model has won:

According to the team at AutoGuide, the new Civic impressed the editors with its upscale style and its new engine. They also said that the 2016 model “breathes life back into the storied nameplate” of the Honda Civic.
