Frank Ancona Honda Featured in Kansas City Star for Participation in U.S. Marine Corps Reserve Toys for Tots Program

image01

Frank Ancona Honda was featured in the Saturday edition of Kansas City Star’s Drive section. Thank you to David Boyce for writing the excellent article. The article highlighted Frank Ancona Honda’s participation in the U.S. Marine Corps Reserve Toys for Tots Program.

Over the past month, Frank Ancona Honda has been collecting new, unwrapped toys to be distributed to local area children in need this holiday season. With the support of the Kansas City community, we were able to collect over 225 toys for our first year as an official sponsor for the Toys for Tots program.

Frank Ancona Honda is committed to philanthropic charities that support kids and families. It has donated and helped fundraise for charities like City Union Mission, the Ronald McDonald House, Catholic Charities, the Phoenix Family, KidsTLC and more.

In the article, David Heitman, general sales manager for Frank Ancona Honda, said, “Because the Anconas have so many charities and organizations they give to, they felt like this one, especially at Christmas time, is something special for the kids. That’s what it is all about.”

This was Frank Ancona Honda’s first year sponsoring the Toys for Tots program and we can’t wait to see what the response will be for the years to come.

Heitman said, “It is that time of year where there is that special feeling in the air, and the children need to keep that special feeling alive. This is one way to give back and help that. Thank goodness for the United States Marines Corps Reserves who created the event for giving toys for the ones in need and the ones who deserve them the most.”

Frank Ancona Honda is now an Official Sponsor of U.S. Marine Corps Reserve Toys for Tots Program

Screen Shot 2015-11-30 at 9.40.18 AM

Children are our nation’s biggest resource. Today’s children make up our future leaders, but according to the National Center for Children in Poverty, more than 16 million children in the United States live below the federal poverty level, accounting for 22 percent of all children. Poverty is one of the biggest threats to a child’s well-being, causing poor general and mental health. It also affects the child’s ability to learn and leads to low self-esteem.

The federal poverty level for a family of four in the United States is $23,550 a year; however, research has shown that families need an income of about twice as much to cover basic expenses. This means about 45 percent of all children live in low-income families. With close to half the population of children living close to poverty levels, the holiday season can bring sadness and stress. By having just enough income to cover basic expenses, families often have to go without toys during the holiday season.

This is why Frank Ancona Honda is happy to be a local sponsor of the U.S. Marine Corps Reserve Toys for Tots program. The Toys for Tots program aims to collect and distribute new, unwrapped toys to children in need during the holiday season. The program wants to deliver a message of hope to those less fortunate and encourage them to become responsible, productive and patriotic citizens.

Help spread the message of hope this holiday season by bringing in new toys to our store. Together we can help spread holiday cheer to those less fortunate. Bring in a toy today to our store located at 1000 N. Rogers Rd in Olathe, Kan. We will accept toy donations now through December 16, 2015. You can also give a monetary donation to the Toys for Tots program on its website.

About Toys for Tots: The Toys for Tots program became a foundation for the U.S. Marine Corps Reserve in 1995. The program aims help less fortunate children throughout the United States experience the joy of Christmas. Toys for Tots helps unite all members of the community to play an active role in the development of our children. Over its lifespan, the program has distributed over 416 million toys to over 195 million less fortunate children.

Frank Ancona Honda to Accept Winter Coat Donations to Help Children in Need

Winter in Kansas City can be pretty unpredictable, but one thing is for sure, it gets cold. Did you know that cold weather is accountable for over 63 percent of weather-related deaths in the United States? According to a report by the National Center for Health Statistics, cold winter weather kills more than twice as many Americans as the unbearable summer heat.

No one deserves to freeze out in the cold this winter because they don’t have the proper winter coat to help keep them warm, especially children. According to kidshealth.org, children are at a greater risk for frostnip and frostbite than adults. The best way to prevent this is to make sure they are dressed warmly and don’t spend too much time in cold weather.

image05

Winter coats can be expensive, often causing children to have to face the winter months without proper warmth. Here at Frank Ancona Honda, we always try to give back to the community, which is why we are happy to announce that we are a drop-off location for new or gently used winter coats to help local children in need this winter.

Want to help? Drop off new or gently used winter coats to help children in need to our store located at 1000 North Rogers Road in Olathe, Kan. The cut-off date for this year’s drive is December 4, 2015, but we will continue accepting donations throughout 2016 to prepare for next winter. After the cut-off we will take all the donated coats to a local dry cleaner to be professionally cleaned before being distributed to local charities and kids across the Kansas City Metro.

Winter weather will be here before we know it, so please bring your new coat donations to our store today to help local children stay warm this winter.

Frank Ancona Honda Shares A Heartwarming Story From City Union Mission In Support Of FeedKCNow

City Union Mission is currently in the middle of the largest food drive in Kansas City, FeedKCNow. The drive helps provide food for many of the homeless families and individuals in the metro area. The mission also helps provide support groups and programs for the homeless and people who need help getting back on the right track. If you’re not familiar with City Union Mission, they shared one of their heartwarming stories with Frank Ancona Honda to pass along.

Frank Ancona Honda Helps Feed KC Now

When James was growing up, he was active in his church and an avid violin player. He had a zeal for life. But then his mother said something happened to James and he started down a different path. He started doing things out of the ordinary and turned to meth. His family didn’t know what to do and was at a loss, so they started praying and left James’ addiction with God. That’s when James found City Union Mission and the Christian Life Program. The program was able to help James beat his addiction and get his life back on track. James found his passion for playing the violin again and best of all, found his passion for life again.

You can watch and hear more about James from the eyes and voice of his mother in a video from City Union Mission’s YouTube channel:

Stories like James’ and many others inspired Frank Ancona Honda to support City Union Mission and make a donation to FeedKCNow. We hope James’ story inspired you as well.

You might not know it only takes $2 per meal to feed one homeless person at City Union MIssion. Imagine how many meals the Mission could provide with as little as a $10 donation.

But even if you can’t donate, educate. You can accept the #2DollarChallenge to show your support for the Mission. Eat three meals one day for $2 per meal and upload a video or post to our Twitter, @AnconaHonda. Be sure to use the tag #2DollarChallenge.

Without help from the community, City Union Mission can’t provide the services it does for the homeless of Kansas City, and it can’t help turn lives around, much like it did for James. Take a moment to watch James’ story, and if you can make a donation, please use our RAZ mobile fundraiser site: http://razmobile.com/b4f7e

Honda Stage Connects With Millennials

Honda has always been big on innovation, and now is making a big move into the music scene with its new music platform, Honda Stage. The multi-platform program is designed to meet music fans in environments where they’re already searching for and consuming music, according to a report filed by Forbes magazine.

Honda is focused on attracting millennials who consume a big portion of online media in comparison to traditional TV.  The auto manufacturer is anticipating brand loyalty and an increase in sales as a result of the new initiative.

American Authors Performing at the Honda Stage

With its addition to the music industry with the Honda Civic Tour back in 2001 that has thus far entertained 3.5 million americans, Honda is looking to offer Honda Stage as a youtube channel devoted to original content as well as 200 sponsored live events over the next year.

Coming up next for Honda Stage is of course the 2014 Honda Civic Tour, where this year musical acts GroupLove and Portugal.The. Man. will look to bring many new fans out to the tour who usually would not be making the trip to the tour. The 2014 Honda Civic tour will be coming to Kansas City at Crossroads on August 29.
