As the fourth generation of the beloved Honda Odyssey was released, Honda also unveiled a future concept of the best selling minivan. So far, the Honda Odyssey has been the most popular minivan with individual American car buyers for each of the past six years and led the pack once again in 2016. As mentioned before, the 2016 model was also recognized by U.S. News & World Report as one of the Best Minivans for Families for a record-breaking sixth year as well as earning recognition as one of Kelley Blue Book’s Best Family Cars of 2016.
With the 2018 model, Honda is hoping to turn the Honda Odyssey into a technological hub that includes a variety of features. Some of these advanced connectivity and entertainment features include New Display Audio, streaming video with 4G LTE Wi-Fi and CabinWatch and CabinTalk. These new cabin features utilize a camera that lets the driver and front passenger keep an eye on the rear passengers both day and night via an eight-inch Display Audio screen. If you catch one of the kids doing something they shouldn’t be, CabinTalk allows the driver to talk to the second and third-row passengers through the speakers and rear entertainment system headphones.
The new family-friendly vehicle features Honda’s modern styling similar to their other vehicles. The new models will also be powered by a 3.5-liter, direct-injected i-VTEC™ V-6 engine with Variable Cylinder Management™ (VCM™). At its peak, the engine output is expected to be 280 net horsepower, an additional 32 hp on previous models. The car will come with either a 9-speed automatic or an all-new, Honda-developed 10-speed automatic, the first of its kind in a minivan, providing more confident and refined performance. Honda believes that these powertrains, when combined with the Odyssey’s new sleek and aerodynamic design, are expected to result in continued class-leading performance and top-in-class EPA fuel economy ratings.
