Since 1994 The North American Car and Truck and Utility Vehicle of the Year awards have honored excellence in the fields of innovation, design safety, performance, technology, driver satisfaction and overall value. The judges for the award consist of over 50 professional automotive journalists from both the United States and Canada. Because the award is not associated with a specific publication the panel is able to create a diverse base of judges. This year the panelists not only selected the Honda Ridgeline as a finalist but as the overall top selection.
Car enthusiasts at Car and Driver have fallen in love with the spacious and comfortable interior, claiming the vehicle “embarrasses the competition.” fell in love with the spacious and comfortable interior, claiming it “embarrasses the competition.” The pickup truck has also been recognized for its superior safety record. The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety, or IIHS, discussed tests performed on a series of trucks where the Ridgeline stood out. Although getting the best value for your money is important, by no means should it cast a shadow on safety. Don’t worry, Honda has you covered in both areas! The coveted 2016 TOP SAFETY PICK+ rating from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) was awarded to four Hondas in recognition of their superior crash safety performance. Several 2016 Honda models were also recognized by IIHS with the esteemed TOP SAFETY PICK rating due to their excellent safety performance and still more earned top marks with a 5-Star Overall Vehicle Score from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA).
The awards keep stacking up for Honda. Frank Ancona Honda is proud to announce that six Honda models were ranked as Kelley Blue Book’s Best Family Cars of 2016, claiming six of the 16 available spots. Honda is the only automaker to earn awards in each category segment, making it the most recognized brand in Kelley Blue Book’s assessment for 2016. The 2016 Honda Accord, Civic, HR-V, CR-V, Pilot and Odyssey were all highlighted in their respective categories.
Kelley Blue Book created the Best Family Cars list as a resource to make picking the right family vehicle a little less daunting. The KBB staff put all vehicle contenders through extensive tests evaluating overall family comfort, safety and value.
In a Honda press release, Jeff Conrad, senior vice president and general manager of sales of the Honda Division, said, “This recognition by the experts at Kelley Blue Book of six of our core models is affirmation that Honda has the best possible choices for families of any size.”
The New York Daily News said it best, “When it comes to value, 2016 is all about the Honda Motor Company.” Kansas City Honda dealer Frank Ancona Honda is excited to announce that five different Honda vehicles have been honored with six Best Cars for the Money awards by U.S. News & World Report. The Honda Accord has always been designed with fuel efficiency in mind, but the 2015 models beat out all previous fuel economy standings the vehicle had. Currently the Accord Hybrid sees EPA fuel economy ratings of 50 mpg highway, 45 mpg city and 47 mpg combined.
The Accord Hybrid features two motor hybrid system, blending electric-only, hybrid and engine drive models. The official name for this system is Two-Motor Hybrid Intelligent Multi-Mode Drive (i-MMD). This technology that is part of the Honda EarthDreams powertrain lineup. This is the most thermally efficient engine in production currently for any car brand.
The Accord Hybrid also features highly responsive and powerful regenerative braking the improves the fuel performance. Along with regenerative braking to help improve fuel economy, the Accord Hybrid incorporates start/stop technology and the air conditioner, power steering and water pump are electrically operated.
The Accord Hybrid starts off as all electric when you first turn it on. If you stay in a city-driving speed limit, it will run on electric-only for about thirteen miles. This distance is so short because the battery doesn’t have the same energy storage as a plug-in model. After all-electric is used up, a generator kicks on to provide on-board electric propulsion.
Keeping the engine below 43 mph keeps the Accord in this hybrid mode, meaning there is no mechanical connection between the drive wheels and the engine. However, going faster than 43 turns the engine on. Going 60 mph or faster shifts the engine to gas-only.
Even without the first class fuel economy that the Accord Hybrid has been recognized for, the vehicle provides an incredible driving experience that some car reviews have called futuristic. Driving a Honda Accord Hybrid is absolutely seamless – drivers do not feel gears shift or hear that gasoline exhaust noise. This is because the i-MMD doesn’t have any belts, pulleys, drive clutch or torque converter to create such a seamless experience. Even without these nuances we are all used to, the Accord generates an impressive 141 horsepower for a hybrid.
As part of its commitment to keeping drivers safe, Honda has led the U.S. in safety and driver technologies including features that aim to reduce injuries in a collision, such as collapsible hood hinges and breakaway windshield wiper pivots.
Additionally, Honda has become the leader in adding rearview cameras. More than 94 percent of Honda and Acura models sold in the U.S. in 2013 were equipped with standard rearview cameras. No other brand has as many models equipped with standard rearview cameras for the 2014 model year and by the 2015 model year.
