Children are our nation’s biggest resource. Today’s children make up our future leaders, but according to the National Center for Children in Poverty, more than 16 million children in the United States live below the federal poverty level, accounting for 22 percent of all children. Poverty is one of the biggest threats to a child’s well-being, causing poor general and mental health. It also affects the child’s ability to learn and leads to low self-esteem.

The federal poverty level for a family of four in the United States is $23,550 a year; however, research has shown that families need an income of about twice as much to cover basic expenses. This means about 45 percent of all children live in low-income families. With close to half the population of children living close to poverty levels, the holiday season can bring sadness and stress. By having just enough income to cover basic expenses, families often have to go without toys during the holiday season.

This is why Frank Ancona Honda is happy to be a local sponsor of the U.S. Marine Corps Reserve Toys for Tots program. The Toys for Tots program aims to collect and distribute new, unwrapped toys to children in need during the holiday season. The program wants to deliver a message of hope to those less fortunate and encourage them to become responsible, productive and patriotic citizens.

Help spread the message of hope this holiday season by bringing in new toys to our store. Together we can help spread holiday cheer to those less fortunate. Bring in a toy today to our store located at 1000 N. Rogers Rd in Olathe, Kan. We will accept toy donations now through December 16, 2015. You can also give a monetary donation to the Toys for Tots program on its website.

About Toys for Tots: The Toys for Tots program became a foundation for the U.S. Marine Corps Reserve in 1995. The program aims help less fortunate children throughout the United States experience the joy of Christmas. Toys for Tots helps unite all members of the community to play an active role in the development of our children. Over its lifespan, the program has distributed over 416 million toys to over 195 million less fortunate children.

Frank Ancona Honda to Accept Winter Coat Donations to Help Children in Need

Winter in Kansas City can be pretty unpredictable, but one thing is for sure, it gets cold. Did you know that cold weather is accountable for over 63 percent of weather-related deaths in the United States? According to a report by the National Center for Health Statistics, cold winter weather kills more than twice as many Americans as the unbearable summer heat.

No one deserves to freeze out in the cold this winter because they don’t have the proper winter coat to help keep them warm, especially children. According to kidshealth.org, children are at a greater risk for frostnip and frostbite than adults. The best way to prevent this is to make sure they are dressed warmly and don’t spend too much time in cold weather.

Winter coats can be expensive, often causing children to have to face the winter months without proper warmth. Here at Frank Ancona Honda, we always try to give back to the community, which is why we are happy to announce that we are a drop-off location for new or gently used winter coats to help local children in need this winter.

Want to help? Drop off new or gently used winter coats to help children in need to our store located at 1000 North Rogers Road in Olathe, Kan. The cut-off date for this year’s drive is December 4, 2015, but we will continue accepting donations throughout 2016 to prepare for next winter. After the cut-off we will take all the donated coats to a local dry cleaner to be professionally cleaned before being distributed to local charities and kids across the Kansas City Metro.

Winter weather will be here before we know it, so please bring your new coat donations to our store today to help local children stay warm this winter.

Frank Ancona Honda Featured in Kansas City Star for Support to Great Plains SPCA

greatplains

Frank Ancona Honda was the front page story in the Saturday edition of Kansas City Star’s Drive section. Thank you to David Boyce for writing an excellent article. The article put Frank Ancona Honda’s recent participation in the Great Plains SPCA’s donation campaign for much-needed funds in the spotlight. At Frank Ancona Honda, we believe in giving back to great causes and donate regularly to charities across the Kansas City metro.

This past September and October, Frank Ancona Honda supported Great Plains SPCA in its donation campaign to raise $500,000 as a way to honor Sheila Ancona, late wife of Founder Frank Ancona. Sheila was an avid supporter of animal welfare and donated frequently to various animal shelters throughout Kansas City. She passed away in August 2014, after a long battle with cancer.

As a way to continue Sheila’s legacy, Frank Ancona Honda joined RAZ Mobile and other local Kansas City area businesses in an effort to help Great Plains SPCA raise its crucial funding. The campaign was a huge success and exceeded the fundraising goal. All money raised during the donation campaign will provide more resources to place animals in homes.

Great Plains SPCA is a no-kill animal shelter located in the Kansas City Metro area serving 35,000 pets annually. It collaborates with other animal welfare agencies in the area to promote adoption, outreach, vet care and an overall better life for pets in Kansas City.
