On September 16, 2015, Frank Ancona Honda hosted the semi-annual Honda Owners Workshop Event at the dealership. Since these owners are new to Frank Ancona Honda, the workshop event introduced the different services and conveniences the dealership offers to owners to keep their vehicle in top condition. After enjoying a complimentary dinner, new owners got to meet the service technicians who work at Frank Ancona Honda.

The owners got a tour of the service waiting area. To keep owners comfortable while they are waiting for their vehicle to be serviced, the waiting area offers a variety of seating and complimentary soft drinks and juice, a full coffee bar, fruit, donuts and cookies. Free Wi-Fi is available in the waiting area as well as a few computers for waiting customers to use. There is also a child play area with plenty of toys and activities. Owners can see their car being serviced with the full glass wall into the service bay.

After the service area tour, the technicians brought the new owners into the service bay where a variety of Honda vehicles were waiting for the owners to explore. The technicians answered any questions owners had about their new vehicles and then asked owners to go to the vehicle model in the bay they currently own. The technicians walked them through the vehicle, talking about what is under the hood and the various service benchmarks they should be aware of. The technicians also offered advice, such as how to change a tire and how certain cool features in the vehicle work.

The next Honda Owners Event will be held March 16, 2016.

Olathe Honda Dealer Recaps 2016 Honda Civic Announcement

Honda decided to reveal details about the 2016 Honda Civic after its initial presentation during the 2015 New York Auto Show on September 16, 2015, via YouTube. The 10th generation Honda Civic has been completely redesigned for a sportier look with more power and technology behind the wheel.

Honda made news when it was the first manufacturer to offer both Android Auto and Apple CarPlay in the 2015 Honda Accord redesign. Now it has been announced that the 2016 Honda Civic will also be the second car ever to feature both technologies. In addition to Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, the 2016 Civic will offer the Honda Sensing technology for safety when driving. Honda Sensing includes Collision Mitigation Braking, Road Departure Mitigation and adaptive cruise control.

Another exciting thing about the 2016 Honda Civic is the design. When it was unveiled at the New York Auto Show with a sportier, sleeker design upgrade, many critics scoffed that Honda would not maintain the edgier look. But the reveal last Wednesday shows the new Civics will look incredibly similar to the concept presented at the auto show. Digital Trends puts it best, calling the silhouette of the Civic dramatic thanks to the cabin being pushed back and the grille upgrade similar to the CR-V and Accord.

Under the hood, the 2016 Honda Civic will have two all-new 4-cylinder engine options. The first is a 2-liter base direct-injected engine and the second is a turbocharged 1.5-liter, also direct-injected. Customers will have the option of a six-speed manual transmission or the continuously variable transmission (CVT). Projections say the new Civic will get 40 mpg highway.

According to the Detroit Free Press, the sedan will be released first this fall followed by the coupe in the winter. Eventually, the United States will also see a 5-door hatchback from Europe and the Civic Type-R in 2017 for the first time. Honda has also announced that they will make an Si trim level that focuses on performance. No word yet on if there will be a hybrid option.

2016 Honda Pilot and Honda Odyssey Earn Top Safety Picks

The 2016 Honda Pilot and the 2016 Honda Odyssey have earned top safety pick awards. The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) awarded the 2016 Honda Pilot an IIHS Top Safety Pick+. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) awarded the 2016 Honda Odyssey a five star overall safety rating.

After completely redesigning the Honda Pilot for the 2016 model year, many of the safety features were upgraded causing the bump in the safety rating from the IIHS. In order to win a Top Safety Pick+ rating from the IIHS, the vehicle needs a good or acceptable small overlap rating and good ratings in the four other tests, including moderate overlap front, side, roof strength and head restraints, along with a front crash prevention system to qualify for the advanced + rating.

During the IIHS testing, the 2016 Pilot performed well with these results from Automotive World:

  • Maximum intrusion of 4 inches at the parking brake pedal.
  • Well-controlled dummy movement.
  • Front and side curtain airbags kept dummy in place and protected the head from contact with the car and outside objects.
  • Low risk of any significant injuries in a severe crash.

The NHTSA awarded the 2016 Honda Odyssey with a five star overall safety rating, the highest safety rating available from the federal government. When testing was performed by the NHTSA, the Odyssey received five stars in the front and side crash tests and four stars in the rollover test. The 2016 Odyssey has many standard safety features that helped achieve this rating, including:

  • Vehicle stability assist with traction control
  • Brake assist
  • Antilock brakes
  • Rearview camera

In the upgraded trim levels, including the EX-L, Touring and Elite models, the Odyssey has additional standard safety features:

  • Forward-collision warning
  • Lane-departure warning
